Read the score together with the review count. For example, Irie Gardens has 5.0 from 25 reviews in this snapshot, while Lazy Lizard has 4.8 from 1,730. A perfect score from a small number of reviews is not the same evidence as a slightly lower score from many more diners. Use the food and setting to decide which suits your visit. Ratings describe reviewers’ experiences, not today’s menu, opening hours or your dietary requirements.

Choose the kind of meal you want

A casual meal beside the beach

Lazy Lizard is on the Boardwalk, with its address also given as 5 Front Street, Unit 19. Its listed food includes Caribbean dishes, seafood and grilled options. Consider it for a Caribbean lunch alongside a beach-and-town visit.

Dutch pancakes and local craft beer

Dutch Blonde is at 79 Boardwalk. Its own website presents a pancake restaurant and locally brewed craft beer, so it is an option when you want pancakes or a local beer along the promenade. The brewery is at a separate location in Point Blanche; the Boardwalk address is the bar and restaurant.

A seated lunch or dinner overlooking Great Bay

Ocean Lounge is the restaurant at Holland House Beach Hotel. Its menus cover lunch and dinner, including seafood and steak with European and Caribbean influences. It also offers beach-bar and chair service, so dining and time on the sand can form parts of the same visit. Breakfast is described as being for hotel guests only; visiting diners should plan around the other services.

Vegetarian food, Chinese dishes or a sports bar

Irie Gardens is a vegetarian option at Walter Plantz Square, toward the western end of the waterfront. Pink Pearl is at 147 Front Street and is listed by the tourism bureau for Chinese food and indoor seating. Marley’s, at 119 Front Street, describes itself as a place to watch sports under a covered patio. These give you three different reasons to choose a stop beyond its review score.

A beach package or a restaurant table?

Along Great Bay Beach, some venues combine food and drinks with chair or umbrella rentals. A restaurant table and a beach setup are different arrangements: booking one does not establish what is included with the other.

Before paying for a beach package, ask for its total price, the number of chairs, shade, any included drinks and access to facilities.

Before you choose

  • Timing: Confirm the kitchen hours for the day of your visit, especially if you are planning breakfast or dinner.
  • The bill: Read the current menu and ask about any service charge and what is included in a quoted package.
  • Dietary needs: Ask the venue about ingredients and preparation for your specific requirement; a customer rating cannot answer that question.
  • Cruise visitors: Work back from your ship’s all-aboard time, allowing for the meal and your return journey.
